I to cannot stand the black plastic thing and am still puzzling over the $100 rear fog lamp option on the window sticker of my 06 Cooper (I bought it used with less than 800 miles). My car's 7 years old and I always fear that I'll walk out one day and be subjected to the yellow filmy look. It's good to know what to do when it happens. I hope to get a paint job this summer. It also requires coding and install of those pieces. White is a bad colour for a light facing other drivers. Red does not diminish night vision and will not dazzle them. :) Red is safest.
